‘Four in Four’ Malinga
Posted in: Cricket Statistics & Records, World Cup 2007!South Africa were just about finishing off the day to reach 210 (winning target). And it was Kallis, doing good with the bat was taking the match home with Pollock. Comes in Malinga at 205-5 at the end of 44th over. The fifth ball of the over was not so great, but it was the timing of the ball that made it great.
A slower ball, on the stumps, wasn’t picked by Pollock. Clean Bowled. He went away with a sheepish smile.
Then came Hall, who was about to face a yorker…he picked it up well…but picked it up a bit too high, and Tharang plucked the ball.
The next over was a maiden. And back comes the orange head. Wide outside the off stump ball was poked at…as if Sachin Tendulkar had coached…Kallis poked at it, which Sangakkara ! Hat-trick it was…Malinga the fifth after Chetan Sharma, Saqlain Mushtaq, Chaminda Vaas, Brett Lee and now Malinga (mauling South Africa)
Then came Ntini, the one who made the important Single in last March against Australia! But this time around, he couldn’t stop Malinga to take another one with his deadly yorker that follows his deadly action. Four in four for the first time in the history of One Day International Cricket…the Australian’s call it double-hattrick (what they will call Malinga’s action is another issue ;-))
All in all…Malinga has confirmed his place in the history of Cricket with a unique feat. Life will be different for Malinga after this, only time should say how different.
A Great Feat!
