Blue Billion Still Praying!

“India didn’t play well enough” that was what poor Chappell said, for most of the question thrown at him by the journos after match yesteday. India performed badly (as usual in crucial matches)! And as usual there was Rahul Dravid who waged a lonely war. Alas! He waged it only when he came to bat, not few hours before!Yesterday in one of my blogs, I said India can beat the opponents even before the match is played, with proper team selection! Unfortunately the team selection left much to be desired, and as usual the team ‘performance’ wasn’t a surprise since India hadn’t won any big tournaments outside Asia since 1985!

Anyways, there will be more effigies burnt today, than when they were burnt last week. There will be more havoc today, than what happened last week. Still people will say Sachin Tendulkar is a great Indian batsman, still people would want Saurav, and still Rahul Dravid might want Ajit Agarkar in his team (he kind of did well yesterday!)

All said and done, I still remember the picture of Jonty Rhodes running Inzy bhai out in World Cup 1992. It gives me a great feeling. I won’t forget the picture for quite some time now! Only this will generate a feeling of a different kind. And yet there is no one to be blamed, because cricket is like a movie. When a movie is good, it is because of everyone involved. But when it fails, because the director didn’t realize it was bad. Ditto here. Rahul Dravid captaincy wasn’t upto the mark. Anyways he was captain only till the World Cup. He is no more the captain (And can India’s stars change because of this…? :-)) people like me are too much of optimists or day dreamers!)

And bringing the paranormal into the fore, March 23rd will remain a black mark in Indian cricket, because they lost to Australia in WC 2003 Final on the same day, and yesterday they lost control of their fate!

Even as I write this, there should be some kind of mayhem happening somewhere near the homes of these cricketers. And yet, these mayhem makers and chaos creators will be praying inside…that men in a different shade of blue do well in their match against Bangladesh.

Funny isn’t it, the darker shade of blues gave the lighter blues blues! And now another shade of blues hold the future of the lighter blues!
