Dravid joins 10K Club
Posted in: Cricket Statistics & RecordsIndia skipper Rahul Dravid on Wednesday became the sixth batsman in the world and the third Indian to score 10,000 runs in one-day internationals when he drove Sanath Jayasuriya for a single on his way to a match winning 66 in the third one-dayer against Sri Lanka in Goa.
Dravid, who needed 22 runs at the start of his innings got to the landmark in his 309th ODI, thus joining Indian team mates Sachin and Saurav who’ve scored 14,783 and 10,412 runs from 381 and 285 matches respectively.
Other players to have reached the 10,000 club are: Inzamam-ul Haq (Pak) 11665 runs in 374 ODIs; Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka) 11516, 378; and Brian Lara (West Indies) 10136, 290.
If one may recall, Dravid was a player who was dropped from the one-day side for slow and painstaking batting display in the one day format. Labeled as fit to play only test matches by the critics, Dravid went on to work on his game to become a utility player who even could keep wickets.
Since then the Indian skipper has proved everyone wrong by contributing to the team in both versions of the game. But Dravid was modest at the end of the match yesterday by saying that whoever plays 300 odd one-dayers is bound to reach the five figure mark.
