India at Margao

Posted in: Cricket Statistics & Records

The third ODI between India and Sri Lanka will be played at the Nehru Stadium in Margao tomorrow. Margao is located in the holiday hotspot of Goa, a former Portuguese colony. The venue has been a mixed ground for India so far. But history should hardly matter to the Indians as it’s a must win situation for them.

The Nehru Stadium at Margao is not a regular venue for ODIs, its been more of a soccer venue with a 27,000 capacity. The stadium staged its first game in 1989-90 for the Nehru Cup between Australia and Sri Lanka. Since then it had held six ODI’s with India making only three appearances. The last match played at this venue was last year in April 2006 when England toured India. India beat England by 49 runs with Yuvraj coming to the party hitting 103 against the mediocre English attack.

A score of 270 plus should be a difficult target for the team batting second. The Lankans are surely a confident lot after winning at Rajkot and will try to win this one to seal the series. India hopefully would have learnt from its mistakes and would go all out to level the series. The middle overs are going to hold the key but a nail biting finish is on the cards for sure at Margao.
