Aussies humiliate England
Posted in: Cricket News & UpdatesEngland’s disastrous tour down under continued with Australia yet again beating them with a nine-wicket victory in their tri-series ODI at Adelaide Oval on Friday. England never got started off producing their worst batting display in recent times.
England showed no resistance at all and crumbled within 35 overs helping Aussies to book their place in the finals. Australia cruised to an easy victory with more than half of their 50 overs to spare. This happens to be England’s lowest total of their current tour so far.
For England Ian Bell top scored with 35 off 31 balls and was the only batsman to make any impression against an Australian side missing two of their frontline bowlers.
Australian paceman Mitchell Johnson returned capturing 4-45 in the absence of Glenn McGrath and Nathan Bracken who were given a match off. Brett Lee chipped in with 2 where as Stuart Clark , Brad Hogg and Symonds shared one each.
Australia finished with plenty to spare with the sole loss of Glichrist who was run out for 23 off 19 balls. There on Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting guided them to victory with an unbroken 79-run partnership.
Ponting finished unbeaten on 51 from 61 balls while Hayden was not out on 30 off 68 deliveries at the end.
Australia remains unbeaten after five matches in the series. They play New Zealand in Perth on Sunday while England, currently in last place behind the Kiwis, plays New Zealand at the same venue on Tuesday.
