The Wicket at Barabati
Posted in: Cricket Statistics & RecordsFor those who wanted to know a bit about the Barabati Stadium at Cuttack where the second ODI will be played between India and the West Indies. The Barabati Stadium hosted its first one-day international in January 1982, when India played England and won by five wickets to lift the series 2-1.
Since then 10 ODI’s have been played with one match being abandoned. It’s been a happy hunting ground for the Indians as history suggests. The 8 one-dayers that India played here resulted in them winning 6 and loosing 2.
The highest total posted on this ground has been 301 by India versus Zimbabwe in 1998 and the maximum wickets have been taken by Anil Kumble. The wicket has always been a low scoring one where the visiting sides in the past have sometimes expressed their qualms about having to travel from Bhubaneshwar, an hour’s drive away, because of the lack of an airport and of quality accomodation in Cuttack.
