Shoaib Akhtar’s comeback
Posted in: Cricket Players & MatchesShoaib Akhtar’s 4 for 36 bundled out South Africa for 124 in the 2nd test at Port Elizabeth. Making a comeback of sorts after his injury, Shoaib is surely trying to stake a claim for a place in the side for the upcoming world cup.
Shoaib Akhtar, who last played a Test against India in Karachi in February 2006, was banned from cricket for two years in November 2006 along with team mate Mohammad Asif after testing positive for banned substances but was later acquitted.
Shoaib has been Pakistan’s strike bowler ever since Wasim and Waqar retired but injuries have marred his 8 year long career. He was lethal and the fastest when he made his debut against India at Eden Gardens, Kolkatta in 1999.
Since then it’s been a rollercoaster ride for him. If Pakistan wants to win the world cup, Shoaib has to strike form and most of all has got to be match fit and perform consistently. The injury list of Pakistan bowlers has increased off late and seems to be no good as there is only this series before the team for the world cup is chosen.
