Freddie back as Captain
Posted in: Cricket News & UpdatesAfter witnessing Flintoff’s 72 not out against the Kiwis at Hobart on 16 Jan, we thought he’s coming into his own and sans captaincy he is much better off. But in came the news of Vaughan getting injured and so England’s woes continue.
Andrew Flintoff will lead England for Friday’s tri-series match against Australia in Brisbane. The appointment came after Vaughan had been ruled out for the one-day international by a hamstring tear that threatened to end his tour down under.
Flintoff’s appointment does not come as a surprise to many as he’s the best among the worst that is available to them. A win had almost become extinct for England until they chalked up their first win against New Zealand of an otherwise calamitous tour.
It was disclosed that 32 year old Vaughan has been allowed to remain with the squad but will undergo a reassessment in the next 48 hours after only which the English management will take a decision.
It may be recalled that Michael Vaughan had only just returned to the England side after two operations on his right knee which made him miss more than a year of international cricket including the Ashes Tests but was recalled for the triangular one-day series after passing a fitness test.
Its a foregone conclusion that Australia are top favorites to win the one-day series, so the race is between the Kiwis and England as to who will make it to the finals to loose against the mighty Aussies.
