The Loosing Combination
Posted in: MiscellaneousThe just concluded South Africa tour is history and the selection committee gets on with what they are best at. It’s the easiest task when it comes to choosing 14 for any home series. Selecting the team for the one-day series against the Windies to be played at home should not be a problem. As usual there is bound to be speculation of axing certain players but its going to be the same old story.
Once the selectors announce the team they will try and give the same old reasons of picking them because after all for Indians it’s always been the heart that rules.
Rahul Dravid (Captain)
Selectors: It was a foregone conclusion as we had already declared that he will remain captain till world cup 2007 whatever be the outcome of the series.
Virendra Sehwag (Vice-Captain)
Selectors: He’s going thru a lean patch but once he comes good he can be devastating on his day.
Sachin Tendulkar
Selectors: He had a bad series but considering that he has nearly 15000 runs and 40 tons and this WC could be his last, he needs some match practice before he starts scoring.
Saurav Ganguly
Selectors: He was the highest run scorer for India in the recently concluded SA series. We know him more as a one-day batsman and this is a good series to prove himself before the team for the WC is chosen.
VVS Laxman
Selectors: He has been out of the one-day squad but can come in handy against the Aussies.
Yuvraj Singh
Selectors: He is coming back after an injury so he too is given a chance to strengthen the middle-order before the WC gets underway.
Mohd. Kaif
Selectors: He too had a poor one-day series in SA but he’s too good a fielder and player to be left out.
Suresh Raina
Selectors: He’s the sweetest timer of the ball, so what if he had a bad series in SA; he still needs to learn with experience which is only possible if he’s given a chance.
Dinesh Mongia
Selectors: He too performed badly but he wasn’t given a fair chance, so this series may allow him to cement his place before the WC.
MS Dhoni
Selectors: He is our match winner and also keeps wickets. He did fail against SA but we are sure this series will help him get back to what he’s best doing at.
Dinesh Kaarthik
Selectors: Well, he has performed well with the bat in SA and is a good back-up incase Dhoni gets injured.
Ajit Agarkar
Selectors: So what if he gives away lots of runs, he is an automatic choice because he hails from Mumbai and so does Sharad Pawar.
Irfan Pathan
Selectors: He has performed well for Baroda in the Ranji matches and he’s our strike bowler. And don’t forget he also can bat at No.3.
Anil Kumble
Selectors: He’s our match winner and is sure to deliver against the Windies.
Harbhajan Singh
Selectors: He wasn’t given a chance in SA, so he is an automatic inclusion before the start of the WC.
Zaheer Khan
Selectors: He made a good comeback in the series against SA, he needs a few matches before he gets his line and length right as he can be lethal at times.
Sreesanth
Selectors: He has been an automatic choice after what he delivered against SA.
Munaf Patel
Selectors: He has recovered from injury, so he has proven to be a good support to Zaheer and Ajit.
No wonder Mohinder Amarnath had called the selectors a bunch of jokers, looks like it still applies.
