Has the downfall of Aussies begun?
Posted in: My CornerMartyn, Warne, McGrath and Langer- all over 35 have quit test cricket which has come as a big relief to other cricket playing nations. The million dollar question is what happens to Australia Test cricket now? These four greats were match winners in their own respect and their contribution to Australia cricket has been amazing. The Aussies, of course won’t be the same as they were and with Hayden and Gilchrist also set to retire after the world cup will surely leave a huge vacuum in the team.
Who will be left in the Ponting army are- Michael Clark, Andrew Symonds, Brett Lee and Hussey. Looks like the Aussies aren’t too bothered till the world cup; it’s most likely that Stuart Clarke, Bracken or Mitchell Johnson will get a chance as they have shown promise.
Developing good bench strength is not all that matters but giving ample chances for player to evolve and get exposed to pressures and different playing conditions.
I for one think the ACB would have already smelt this much in advance and were ready with their next course of action. The team that they are I don’t think it would be too much of a worry for them; at the most they may loose a couple of matches on the way before they get the right winning combination. What say?
